Minorities Community Vitality: Environment and Network Effects

Website

Despite demographic losses, Canadian francophone communities in minority situations remain undoubtedly dynamic. This vitality caught the attention of a multidisciplinary interuniversity team trying to understand the geographic factors of development as well as the requirements for vitality in francophone minority communities. The focus of the team is to associate and compare three of the reasons most commonly brought up, but rarely measured, for community vitality in francophone minorities in Canada. These factors are: characteristics of francophone populations and their local and regional organizations, the practices and commitment of the populations, social interactions within the francophone institutions and the derived community capital. In this sense, the research team is looking to enrich the research on francophone minorities by touching on the issue of vitality from a geographic standpoint.
