In celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the United Nation’s adoption of the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC), the University of Ottawa hosted an International Conference on Child Rights from November 18 through 20, 2009 in Ottawa, Canada.
The conference featured over 30 Canadian and international experts and expanded on the interpretation of the four general principles outlined in the CRC, namely, non-discrimination, best interests of the child, maximum survival and development, and respect for the views of the child.
This public forum also explored the international context underlying the convention as well as assess Canada’s progress in implementing the convention’s principles.
