Structure
The Social Sciences and Humanities REB evaluates all research projects originating from School of Management, and from the faculties of Arts, Education and Social Sciences; the Health Sciences and Science REB evaluates all projects originating from the faculties of Engineering, Science, and Health Sciences; and the Appeal Board hears all appeals made against any decision of any of the Research Ethics Boards.
The Faculty of Medicine research projects are assessed by the Research Ethics Board of the Ottawa Hospital. Furthermore, the jurisdiction of the Research Ethics Board of institutions that have formal affiliation agreements with the University of Ottawa is recognized. These are the Ottawa Hospital, the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Teaching Health Unit, the National Defence Medical Centre (NDMC) and the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (ROHCG). Nevertheless, the University of Ottawa's Appeal Board will hear all appeals made against any decision of any medical Research Ethics Board involving the University's professors or students either as investigators or as research subjects.
Quorum
- Quorum for each REB meeting consists of 50% of appointed voting members, plus one;
- Quorum for the Appeal Board meetings consists of three (3) voting members.
