CIHR Guidelines for Stem Cell Research
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research released its “Updated Guidelines for Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Research” on June 7, 2005. All researchers working with Human Pluripotent Stem Cells must comply with these guidelines.
The “Updated Guidelines for Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Research” apply to:
“New or ongoing human stem cell research that is:
- funded by the Agencies; or
- conducted under the auspices of an institution that receives any Agency funding, whether on site or off site; or
- conducted elsewhere with any source of funding, by faculty, staff or students from an institution that receives Agency funding…” (extracted from CIHR web site)
Note that the term “Agency” refers to CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC.
These guidelines require “Review and approval of applications by the Stem Cell Oversight Committee (SCOC), the local Research Ethics Board (REB) and, where appropriate, the Animal Care Committee (ACC) (see Frequently Asked Question #4)”. (extracted from CIHR web site)
