François Carrier, Director
François Carrier was appointed in February 2011. A graduate from the University of Ottawa, he recently spent 10 years at McGill University, serving for eight of those years as Director of the Office of International Research. The portfolio of international projects more than doubled during his tenure, and support provided to researchers was significantly expanded. Prior to that, he worked for more than 10 years as a civil engineer in Ghana, Haiti, Lesotho and Morocco, as a water and sanitation specialist for the Government of Canada and on assignment for several clients.

Carmen Bauer, Project Officer
Carmen Bauer joined the team in March 2012, arriving from Geneva, Switzerland where she worked as the Administrative Director of the Centre for International Environmental Studies. During this mandate she was responsible for the management of the Centre’s research portfolio. Previously she has worked at the University of Ottawa to coordinate a pan-Canadian, multi-institutional, inter-disciplinary project, building data bases for historical and sociological research. Carmen holds an M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Freiburg, Germany, and has conducted fieldwork in Europe, the Middle East and Canada.

Chantal Sanscartier, Coordinator
Chantal Sanscartier started her mandate in November of 2011. After completing her graduate studies, she acquired experience writing and revising research grant proposals at the Faculty of Education of the University of Ottawa. She has also worked with Research Management Services contributing to the administration of research funds and has more recently been involved in the coordination of special projects at the Montfort Hospital’s Academic Affairs division. Perfectly bilingual, she is also fluent in Spanish.

Karine Barthelemy, Administrative assistant
Karine Barthelemy has been with the Office of the Vice-President, Research since August 2004. She provides administrative support to the Office of International Research as well as to other services within the VP-Research office. Prior to that, she was employed at the Undergraduate Medical Education Office of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. She possesses international experiences gained at USAID/Haiti and at the US Peace Corps/Haiti.

Léane Gaumond, Administrative assistant
Léane joined the Office in 2011 as a summer student. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor degree with honors in Conflict Studies and Human Rights at the University of Ottawa. She possesses work experience with international students and travelers, and took part in a cooperative project in Mexico and a student exchange program in Germany.
