Application process

Description of the research project (to be written by the faculty sponsor)
Please provide the information listed below, addressing each item in a separate paragraph. All information should fit on one page, 1.5-spaced, 12 point font. Applications with descriptions longer than one page will be rejected.

  • Present the research question or working hypothesis given to the student. Explain its relevance and define the objectives associated with it.
  • Describe the approaches and methods the student will use.
  • Describe projected learning activities specifying the skills/abilities to be developed by each.
  • Explain how the 50 hours of learning activities is to be divided.
  • Explain how your participation in UROP will enrich your own experience as a professor-researcher.

Student’s statement of purpose (to be written by the student)
The student’s statement of purpose must explain why he or she wants to participate in UROP and the program’s connection with his or her professional goals. It should specify how UROP can help the student attain his or her academic or career goals. Maximum length: one page, 1.5-spaced, 12 point font. Applications with statements longer than one page will be rejected.
